Klangforum Wien congratulates its founder Beat Furrer on the Ernst von Siemens Musikpreis

Beat Furrer, founder of Klangforum Wien, was awarded the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Musikpreis for his life’s work. The award ceremony will take place on May 3rd, 2018 at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. To mark the occasion, Klangforum Wien will perform his piece canti della tenebra for mezzo soprano (Tanja Ariane Baumgartner) and ensemble, conducted by the composer.

Over the years, Klangforum Wien and Beat Furrer have enjoyed a very special artistic relationship. For a period of nearly 35 years, Furrer has played an important role as a companion, most sensitive composer, conductor and initiator. In more than 200 concerts, the ensemble has presented more than 40 of his works, most of them as world premières, including his internationally celebrated   compositions for music theatre such as FAMA and Wüstenbuch, as well as the many solo and ensemble pieces dedicated to members of Klangforum Wien.

In the summer of 2018, Klangforum Wien will present three concerts with some of the composer’s key works at the Salzburg Festival. Further performances this year include concerts in Oslo, Amsterdam, Ljubljana and Vienna.

The Ernst von Siemens board of trustees honours Beat Furrer “for a life devoted to music which spans all genres, infused with great suggestive power. Always true to his very own musical idiom, Furrer never reproduces what is well-tried and tested, but takes his musical ideas a step further with every new work, exploring fresh artistic terrain.”
