FESTIVE DAYS OF EARLY MUSIC

FESTIVE DAYS OF EARLY MUSIC
January 19 to February 2, 2017

In its second edition of the new festival FESTIVE DAYS OF EARLY MUSIC, Klangforum Wien presents five concerts with works from the time in which New Music was first invented, which are hardly ever performed today.

In the days…

…when wishes still came true, the riches of European art music were renewed and re-invented from scratch. This was more than a century ago; now the FESTIVE DAYS OF EARLY MUSIC 2017 will assemble 23 musical treasures from the days when the magic of that great departure was still palpable.

The opening concert at the Mozart-Saal is followed by two evenings at a special location before the festival comes to an end with two further choice programmes at the Wiener Konzerthaus. At the Arnold Schönberg Centre and at the Schubert-Saal, Ferdinand Schmatz will accompany us along overgrown paths with his literary interventions; and Matti Bunzl, our host at the Wien Museum, will make the tenuous threads visible, which link the images and the musical inventions of this rich epoch.

A feast for connoisseurs and an ideal starting point for all of those who do not yet feel entirely at home with contemporary music.

With music of Alban Berg, Alexander Skrjabin, Jean Françaix, Lili Boulanger, Olivier Messiaen, Luigi Nono et. al.

In collaboration with Wiener KonzerthausWien MuseumArnold Schönberg Center and Erweckte Stimmen Forum Wien.

With the kind support of Alban Berg Stiftung
