Géraldine Dutroncy, Piano
Following her studies at the conservatory in Orléans, where she performed her first piano concerto at the age of eight, Géraldine Dutroncy was admitted at the age of 16 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. In the same year, she passed her university entrance diploma (the baccalauréat scientifique) with distinction. She was awarded three first prizes at the Paris conservatory: for chamber music (in the class of Alain Meunier), for piano solo (class Gérard Fremy) and as accompanist (class Jean Koerner). She completed her university diploma in each of these disciplines “with distinction”.
2003 she came fifth at the International Schubert Competition Dortmund. She performs as soloist as well as in chamber music formations such as the Trio Pantoum and has meanwhile accumulated a great number of international prizes, such as a second prize in Illzach, a third prize in Trapani, a first prize awarded by Boehringer-Ingelheim and a second prize which she won at the Brahms competition in Pörtschach, Austria. She plays on many of the major stages in France, Europe and overseas, such as the piano festival La Roque Anthéron, the festivals in Montpellier, Nîmes and Aix-en-Provence, the Olivier Messiaen Festival in Pays de la Meije, the Recontres Musicales de Haute-Provence, the Why Note Festival, the Festival des Midis-minimes in Brussels, the Haverhill and Cambridge Festivals in the UK as well as the Atempo Festival in Caracas.
Due to her special interest in contemporary music, Géraldine Dutroncy has worked with a number of today’s leading composers, amongst them Tristan Murail (New York), Pierre Strauch and Pierre Boulez. She participated in Hanspeter Kyburz’s „Danse Aveugle” as well as the world premiere in 2005 of „Double Points: ΟΥΤΙΣ“ at the Festival d’Automne at the Paris Centre Pompidou. Her meeting with Betsy Jolas in 2007 resulted in a concert series that was dedicated to her oeuvre: “With ‘B for Sonata’ (…) Géraldine Dutroncy offers a quarter of an hour of sheer poetry, drawing maximum depth from all the piano’s registers and it’s possibilities of expression without any kind of concession to lightness” (Simon Corley, Concertonet, December 2008). Her interpretation of Marc Monnet’s piano concerto under the baton of Pierre-André Valade with Ensemble Court-Circuit at the side of Dimitri Vassilakis in April 2009 at the Printemps des Arts in Monte Carlo set standards. A recording of this concert and of the „Intermèdes pour piano” was released in 2009 by Zig Zag Territories.
In addition to her performances in solo-recitals, Géraldine Dutroncy has played with a great number of orchestras: the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre de Picardie, Orchestre National de Montpellier, Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, the chamber choir Accentus, as well as with ensembles for contemporary music such as Ensemble Fa, Ensemble TM+, Ensemble XXI, l’Itinéraire, Ensemble Plural à Madrid, Ensemble Court-Circuit and especially with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, which she has accompanied on a number of concert tours, for example to the UK, where she performed Stravinsky’s „Les Noces” under the baton of Pierre Boulez at the London Royal Albert Hall as well as in Edinburgh in September 2004.
