
Gerd Kühr
Born in 1952 at Maria Luggau in Carinthia, Austria.
1972–1970 in Salzburg: Studied history and music education. Orchestral
Conducting with G.Wimberger, composition with J. F. Doppelbauer. He played in a piano duo in Austria and abroad.
1979–1984 in Cologne: Professor of theory of music and coach at the
Cologne Opera.
1980–983 he studied composition with Hans Werner Henze; has since worked on different projects with this composer (including the elaboration of the Viennese version of his ballet “Orpheus”).
1984–1986 he worked for the Graz Opera.
Since 1985 he has a teaching position at the Graz Universitv of music and Dramatic Arts.
1988 World Première of his opera “Stallerhof” based on a play by F. X. Kroetz at the Muich Biennale.
1987–1989 Artistic Director of the Youth Music Festival at Deutschlandsberg, part of steirischer herbst.
1990–1992 Artistic Director of the Composition Workshop of the Munich Biennale.
1992–1994 he was teaching composition as a guest professer at the Salzburg Mozarteum.
Since 1994 he is teaching composition at the Graz University of Music and Dramatic Arts.
His compositions are performed in Austria and abroad (Vienna, Cologne, Munich, London, Paris, Rome, Moscow and other cities). He has receivd numerous commissions and prizes. He appears as orchestral and opera conductor in Austria, Italy, Germany, Russia and Guatemala.
