Daniel Kirch, Tenor

Daniel Kirch was born in Cologne. He studied acting, singing, dancing and directing, since 1994 he was a student at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne in the class of Hans Sotin.

In 1996 he was among the winners of the „VDMK Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin". As a result of this success he has been invited for concerts and recitals as well as for radio-productions by the WDR, NDR and MDR.

In the season 1997/98 he became a member of the Komische Oper Berlin where in the following years he sang roles like Ferrando, Fenton, Rossilon, Truffaldino and Jonathan in Händel`s Saul. From 2001 onwards he is having a guest artist contract with this house. As a lyric tenor he is much in demand. In the last seasons he made his debuts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Frau ohne Schatten/Christian Thielemann), Staatsoper Unter den Linden (Griselda/René Jakobs), Opernhaus Zürich (Merry Widdow), Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona and Opernhaus Düsseldorf (Magic Flute/Tamino) and the Köln Opera House. (Entführung/Belmonte, Rosenkavalier/ Sänger a.o.). His concert credits include appearances with the Berliner Sinfonie Orchester (Bruckner Te Deum/Inbal) and the Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin (Hindemith/Janowski) and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Schumann/Abbado).

In 2003/04 he has been invited to return as Tamino to the Bayerische Staatsoper München, gives his debut as Steuermann at La Scala di Milano, sings Walther von der Vogelweide /Tannhäuser at the Theatre de la Monnaie Bruxelles, Belmonte at the Opera Houses in Frankfurt, Berlin Staatsoper and Dresden as well as Guido Bardi / Florentinische Tragödie and Tamino at the Komische Oper Berlin. He also appeared in concerts with the DSO and the BSO (Mahler 8th Symphony) at the Berlin concert houses.

Last seasons projects included his debut as Leander/Maskerade at the Bregenz Festival 2005 as well as his returns to Dresden (Entführung) and Zürich for a new production of Heuberger`s „Opernball". In 2005/06 he sang Jim Mahoney/Mahagonny and Duca/Rigoletto at the Theater Basel and Belmonte at the Vienna State Opera. He regularly appears in concerts (Beethoven`s 9th Symphony and Missa Solemnis) in Germany and abroad, working with orchestras and choirs like Konzerthaus-Orchester, Berlin and RIAS Kammerchor. At the Theatre du Capitole Toulouse he was acclaimed as Tamino (Zauberflöte) in June 2007. In autumn of 2007 he gave his debut as Max (Freischütz) in Warsaw and sang a series of staged performances of Schubert`s Winterreise at the Deutsches Theater Berlin. He finished the season as King Karl in an acclaimed production of Braunfels „Heilige Johanna" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Current and future projects include his return to the Aalto Theater as Tamino in „Die Zauberflöte", as Edwin in „Die Csardasfürstin" in Köln and Max in Der Freischütz at the Salzburg Landestheater and concerts in Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and Warsaw.
