Rolf Gupta


Conductor and composer Rolf Gupta is Music Director of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and was Chief Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra. He is Artistic Director of the Kristiansand Festival and was Artistic Director of MAGMA2002 Berlin. Rolf’s repertoire covers baroque to contemporary works. 
 
He has collaborated with composers including Berio, Lindberg, Wallin, Nørgård, and particularly Henze, whose works he has conducted with the Sharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, WDR Cologne, Nationale ReisOpera and RSO Berlin. Rolf has also worked with orchestras and ensembles including RSO Frankfurt, BBC Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, Orchestra della Toscana, RSO Leipzig, Finnish Radio Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Rémix, Athelas and Ensemble InterContemporain, with solists including Truls Mørk, Antje Weithaas, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Leif Ove Andsnes.
 
In opera, Rolf has conducted a number of world premieres including Bernard Lang’s “Der Alte vom Berge” at the 2007 Schwetzingen Festival and Theater Basel. Other opera engagements have included “La Traviata” for Nationaltheater Mannheim, “Die Zauberflöte” for Frankfurt Opera, and Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” at Valery Gergiev’s White Nights Festiva.
 
Rolf has recorded a number of CDs including Tango Ballet with Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica for Teldec, and Olav Anton Thommessen´s “BullsEye” with the Oslo Philharmonic for BIS.
