Jean Deroyer


The French conductor Jean Deroyer was born in 1979. At the age of fifteen he enrolled at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris where he was awarded five first prizes in conducting, harmony, fugue, counterpoint and analysis. Pierre Boulez then appointed him chief assistant conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain for two seasons. Jean Deroyer has been invited to conduct the following orchestras and ensembles: Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Südwestrundfunk Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Isra’l Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liege, Orchestre National d’ële-de-France, Orchestre National de Lille, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Orchestre Poitou-Charentes, Orchestre de l’Opera de Rouen, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Remix, Elision Ensemble (Australia), Ensemble 21 (New-York), Ensemble Muzyki Nowej (Warsaw), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble and Ensemble Court-Circuit (Paris).
 
Over several years Deroyer has built a close and privileged relationship with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and with Pierre Boulez, whose work Derive 2, in its definitive version, he conducted at the Warsaw Autumn Festival. Alongside Pierre Boulez and Peter Eötvös he conducted Stockhausen’s Gruppen for three orchestras at the Lucerne Festival 07. In September 2007 he made his debut with the Orchestre de Paris at the Salle Pleyel in a concert planned by Henri Dutilleux, and he will work again with this orchestra during forthcoming seasons. With the Orchestre Philharmonic de Radio France, he recorded Thomas Roussel's “Cellar Door”, created for the Loris Gréaud exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris. This CD was released by EMI Music in February 2008.
 
Notable forthcoming engagements include concerts with NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Hyogo Convention Center Orchestra, the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Rome, Orchestre de Paris at the Salle Pleyel, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Radio Symphonie Orchester at the Vienna Konzerthaus and Deutsches Symphonie Orchester at the Berlin Philharmonie.
