Lorelei Dowling, bassoon

Lorelei Dowling, bassoonist and contrabassoonist, is one of the world’s most renowned contemporary specialists. She has been a member of Klangforum Wien since 1995. She tours the world playing solo, chamber, orchestral works and operas. She is a forerunner in expanding the capacities of the bassoon and works closely with composers such as Bernhard Gander and Pierlugi Billone. She performed the Berio Sequenza at the Festival Internacional de Musica Contemporanis, Spain (2005), Vienna Konzerthaus (2007), IDRS, Ithaca University, New York, USA (2007). She premiered “Legno.Edre V. Metrio”, dedicated to her by Pierlugi Billone for the Stuttgart-Festival ECLAT (2006). She is also premiered “IV Manda”, the 4th work in the cycle, at the Minoriten – Neue Musik Festival, Graz (2006).
 
By the age of 24 she obtained her first position with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australia. Since then she has appeared with many esteemed ensembles including Mozarteum Orchestra, Salzburg; Burgtheater Vienna; Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra; Ensemble Modern; Musikfabrik; Esbjerg Ensemble; Lausanne Chamber Orchestra; L’Orchestre Suisse Romande and Gulbankian Symphony Orchestra.
 
She has produced radio programmes in New York and Sydney about Klangforum Wien and contemporary bassoon playing.
